About us

ProActive Massage was established in 2014 in Kuripuni Village, Masterton by Katrina while she was a second year student at The New Zealand College of Massage. During the first few years she was also commuting to Wellington for classes and work with professional sports teams. The clinic was created as a space for Wairarapa locals to engage in massage treatments to aid in recovery and relaxation and as Katrina's knowledge, qualification and expertise grew so did her passion for helping the members of her community. Tarn joined the ProActive Massage team in 2021 when she returned to Masterton after many years overseas, Tarn has brought a wealth of skills and experience to the clinic.

ProActive Massage is an ever evolving clinic that is determined to remain at the forefront of information and treatment approaches to best meet the needs of our community.

At ProActive Massage we believe in helping people to help themselves to function better and live better. We are here to offer advice, encouragement, coaching, exercises, education and of course soft tissue treatment. We are here to help you achieve your goals and to encourage your body to heal itself.

It is imperative you are the center of your healing and goals are realistic and achievable. We are here to help but you also need to take control of your care and ask questions or for more information if you are not quite sure about things. Choosing the right therapist for you is also important, no two therapists are the same and we all have our areas of focus and passions. Check out our therapists profiles at the buttons below to see who might be the best fit for your needs.

At ProActive Massage there is no need to pick a specific treatment type like at other clinics as we tailor every session to your needs at the time. Our therapists are highly educated and are well equipped to use the techniques required for your needs. Please do talk to your therapist about what you think you want and why and we can discuss if what you think you want is really the best approach for what is needed to achieve your goals. There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation about massage and 'how it works' or 'what works best' so we are here to work with you for your needs. For example many people think a massage has to hurt to be affective and many refer to this work as 'deep tissue massage' however this is not the case and can actually have the opposite affect and make things worse.
